Livefyre?

what is livefyre and why do i have to create an account with them in order to post comments now? I just spent 20 min trying to write something, and then when i hit submit the whole thing changed and lost it all. i would use the facebook log in feature, but i dont want all my comments here posted over there, i dont need people stalking everything i do on the internet

i cant handle change!

It's something new that Rigger is trying out. I am not sure of all the functionality yet, but will be up to speed within a day or two. I am not sure if it posts comments to Facebook, most logins that do, don't push info to wall posts.

I'll let Rigger know via email, and he can address concerns here or on Twitter etc. If you want to reach out to him direct, you can DM him here, or on Twitter via @ODG6Actual or @OffDutyGamers.

PerSec is something we all take seriously, for the same reasons as you. If there are any potential issues, we will work to avoid them

Concern noted

Believe me, that was one of the first questions I looked at when assessing this for use here. Please note that you did have to register to comment before, but it was local to this site only. Here's the comment from a very reputable source about the very issue you raise.

Quote:
Some users complained about the platform because they did not want to log in to comment. But to be honest with you, it is not that bad. There is way too much SPAM on the web. Same user commenting twice on the post just to get backlinks while they try to stuff keywords. This is the very reason why top tech sites like Mashable, TechCrunch, TheNextWeb etc. all use user-authentication. TheNextWeb actually uses Livefyre. You just need to login once, and then forget about it. You will be able to comment without any issues. Some folks think that connecting their twitter or facebook account will somehow give us permission to post on their account. NO, it does not. There is a check box that says Share on Twitter and Facebook which by default is UNCHECKED. Unless that field is checked, the comment will NEVER be posted on any of your social media profile.
I implemented this solution and it is currently under evaluation. If it works out then fine, if not the system can be reverted back to the previous commenting system. I do however think this offers a lot of nice functionality and a solid interface with sorting and nesting (so you can see your reply under the person you comment to). IF you use a social networking login you also have the ability to use @username and the person you mention will get a notification. Nice but certainly not required in any way by you.

Lastly... IF I find that anyone's facebook or twitter account is getting spammed through this system I'll either make the appropriate changes to cease that function or remove the solution as a whole. I like to get the name out there but not at the cost of annoying people.

I hope this helps.

BTW. I think the system saved your post... I see it in the backend but not out on the site.. if this is it, copy and paste and drive on with the mission.

i dont know about the AF, but i served alongside a Navy SeaBee Bn for 2 years and can say the only time they did any weapons training was once when we took them out so we could practice for our weapons instructor course. And the Sea Bees are supposed be “fighters”. Corpsman do all the same training as their Marines, so they get to shoot a lot. Considering the rest of the Navy is either on ship or in a support role, they probably hold an M16 once a year for qual, if they even qual every year. But, each service caters it’s training to their mission. With only limited time for training, they need to be able to do their job, and handling weapons is not. It sounds cool for everyone to have lots of weapons training, but when is an AF intel analyst or helo mechanic going to leave the base, let alone carry a rifle in combat? Which would you rather him be proficient at? The fact is, the AF and Navy do their jobs very well, and same with the Marines and Army.

As for Marine infantry and Army infantry being the same, they are not. Having lived with and been in combat with both i can say our doctrine is very different. It was actually amazing to me to see how different we operate. It’s just a totally different mindset. There were a thousand things we did differently. i could write for hours and give examples to why Marines are superior, and they could do the same about why their ways were. Like i said, it’s just a totally different mindset, you cant compare the two.
