Hey all,

Thought I'd jump in n join you on the DZ. Started out in 2d Ranger Batt, before Regiment, and moved on to stand up the Pathfinder Platoon in Korea. Served in 129th LRS-D in its formation, 3-502 Scout Platoon as Sniper Squad Leader, PSG in 1-104th IN and Scout PSG in 1-175th IN, PSG in 1-61 and now an RI in Florida Phase of Ranger School. Been Active Army 18 years and did Reserves for 9, so I've been around and seen a lot of doctrinal change. Served through Saudi and GWOT. Got more jumps than today's Privates got desserts in the DFAC :) Should've never gotten out, but being selected for Recruiting pissed me off. But eventually I missed it, so I came back in to throw some rounds on the two way range.

Welcome Aboard Ranger, impressive background. We do all platforms here, and all branches are represented so you are welcome. There's Air Force about so try not to dirty their nails.

I'm on PC, sound off which platform you have and we will hook you up with some friendlies.

Alpha Bot, War Pigs. Loooong time ago (I was at the activation of 3rd Batt aka: Baby Batt, The Palace Guard, etc)

Oh and I have PC, and PS3. Just getting into MoH and KZ3

@LunchMeat: Hey, i don't mind the Air Force being here at all. They serve up great box lunches when their bus drivers deliver us to the war...even at great sacrifice to their tee times. And I REALLY feel bad about their multiple deployments. I nearly shed a tear when I saw on 60 Minutes how hard it was for one guy going on his <sniff> 4th (GASP!) 3-month deployment.

Welcome :) Like Lunch Meat said earlier, you have an impressive background. I'm a PS3 gamer as well, PSN: x_STiLETTO_x. Feel free to add me! I have both of the games that you're getting into at the moment. Hit me up whenever you want to game and if I'm not at the VA, I'll be here!

I doubt it. I was in 2d Batt from 83-86. Lemme put it this way...there was no Regiment. I went to 2d Batt RIP on North Fort in the now non-existent WWII barracks compound on the extreme NW of North Fort. I served with some of the legends. When I got there the CSM was LG. My 1SG was SGM Palacios, my PSG was SGM Kane and my Squad Leader was SGM Holcomb.

I remember after Regiment got activated, we got a boatload of RIPees from the new Regimental RIP. We put them through the same ol shit; Rainier Watch, Quad Low-Crawl races at 0300, worm drills (RIPees in sleeping bags crawling up n down the stairs) Newbie Bowling and class after class after class. In 3 weeks eight out of ten just plain quit. That's when we knew it was the beginning of the end for the way things were.

Hell, things were changing all over. We weren't allowed to call Legs Legs anymore, couldn't wear 550 cord in our jungle boots as laces, and had to wear BDUs on main post instead of Jungles. While we were gone at the Regiment and 3rd Batt activation some A-hole went through our barracks rooms and took down all our distinctive pleasures. For example, I know one guy who wallpapered his room with every Playboy centerfold from 81 to (then) present, gone. I had a pyramid of JD minis about 6' x 8' in a window. Another buddy in Weapons had "proof-of-life" pictures of all the Rangerettes he had..ahem...been with on the outside of his wall locker. Quite a collection. All gone.

Today's Regiment is so different. It's not even the same unit anymore.

It is possible, however, that you knew a guy I knew. Mark Frye, the BN Commo Chief. He would've been an E7 then, so I'm not sure if you actually knew him well.

I knew Frye, You probably knew Bill Stahler and Hugh Roberts. Roberts was my 1SGT and Stahler was my Platoon SGT.

I didn't do Quad races, but the Gortex Worm was still there (Gortex Sleeping bag and my k-pod). Mount Ranier Watch was fun being snapped in to the room heater with a mop. One night I missed a cherry Firing Range. People still used 550 for their laces. I learned the more they changed the more they stayed the same. Before I got out there was some changes where RIP removed the 12 mile standard and we thought it was the end there.

Glad to have you on board look forward to gaming with you. And we never stopped calling them Legs >.>

Yah Meat, I went to the last hard class of Ranger School. When they stopped printing Ranger Handbooks on clay tablets and had us using radios instead of runners, I knew the Army was getting soft.

That was a joke among my Field Training Officer and I when I was a uniformed cop. He was prior USMC and former Drill Instructor. They used to joke he was so damn old they chased dinosaurs off the damn battlefield. Damn fine cop too. I learned from him if the sonofabitch doesn't have gray hair, then he has nothing to teach me.

I'll take 20 forum topics like this over 1 gamer one any day. We play but the object in that is to keep up the coordination, enjoyment and keep the esprit de corps that we've all enjoyed during or currently in our service.

Damn glad to meet you and I hope you enjoy the site.

I learned from him if the sonofabitch doesn't have gray hair, then he has nothing to teach me.

What if the gray hair isn't on my head? Does it count if I dye it gray? What if I have gray hair but shave my head?

Anyway, welcome, FNGs. Glad to have you.

Yeah well us old dogs gotta look out for you young pups. You may be bouncy and full of vinegar, vim and vigor and you're ready and rearin' for the fight, but remember WE know not to chase the damn cars!

Old age and treachery will triumph over youth and eagerness every time. :sneaky2:
