It’s easy to say the iPhone is one of the greatest electronic devices of our time. With its countless apps, functions, and means of staying in communication, it would be enough to give most people a migraine.
The iPhone is essentially a small computer, and while the processor, RAM and storage may not equal the Quad 3.2 GHz, 2TB, 16 Gig RAM monstrosities we see now, it’s portability and ease of use make it an worthy gaming tool.
Notice I said tool, you won’t own the battlefield with your iPhone, but you might have a little fun.
One of the releases aimed at the iPhone is Call of Duty: World at War Zombies. The game is set in the familiar Call of Duty World at War background. In this storyline, you are an American GI, with only a handful of weapons, and you must face the Undead Hordes of Nazi Zombies bent on devouring your flesh.
The game is simple and straightforward. Shoot, move, shoot, rebuild your barricades, reload, shoot some more etc, etc. Not much in the way of storyline, the only real advancement you can expect is an ever-increasing wave of undead SS troops and zombie Wermacht.
During the game, you have to select predetermined areas and build barricades. This is as simple as moving to the area and tapping the screen, and viola, the boards float up and nail themselves to the wall. Of course the Undead constantly batter them and break through, making you feel something akin to a one armed paper hanger in a tornado, as you rush from one barricade to another, all the while shooting any Undead that made it through.
Options include using a single shot rifle, pistol or sub machine gun. Highlighted areas on the wall provide a magical never-ending supply of ammo.
The graphical UI and iPhone touch screen make controlling movement difficult at best, and enough to make a saint cuss often. Players with big thumbs will mistakenly toggle the wrong weapon, reload when they did not wish to, transition weapons at the wrong movement or fail to hit the specific highlighted area when needed. Movement is likewise hindered, as the game does not make use of the iPhone’s Accelerometer to turn the player in any given direction. All movement is controlled by the touch screen.
Given all that, the graphics for the game are stunning given the available resources, and are on par with the original Call of Duty on various game consoles.
If you like to shoot Nazi Zombies, and have small thumbs, then Call of Duty World at War: Zombies might just be for you.

Hi! Good to see a review of this app on your website – found it whilst trying to find information about new maps… Thought i would clear up a few inaccuracies in your review to help you out a bit..
Controls – the game actually has three control schemes including an accelerometer based control (you should check it out).
Multiplayer – game has local and online co-op and this is where the action really is.
Gameplay – there are a several rooms and these include a random weapon drop that include things like a flamethrower (very cool..) and heavy machine guns (very messy…) – so a lot more than what you found so far!
The screen shot you have used is not for this game….
You should pick it up again and try it some more now that you know a bit more (this stuff is in the help too!). See you online guys (Foozbry)!!

Thanks for the comment. I pulled the images for this one and realized that the small image shows the iphone and call of duty but its an app for COD vs this game. I have updated and am knocking out the appropriate number of pushups to compensate. I dont own an iphone or iPod touch (Im a PC.. lol) but may in the future.
As far as your other comments, I have a feeling Lunch Meat may be interested in another pass based on your intel.

I will take another look at the game, I have to admit to being rather impatient, and looking for immediate entertainment, this game just didn’t offer it to me. But I will take another look in the near future and offer up a second review. (If Rigger82 hasn’t roasted me over an open fire by then).
